The initial focus area will concentrate on research and problem solving related to “Sustainability”. Sustainability, sometimes known as “The triple bottom line” (the economy, environment, and stakeholders), is a hot topic across industry, with governments, consumers, and students.
In 1970, Milton Friedman wrote: “There is one and only one social responsibility of business - to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game.” There is substantial evidence that the game has been changing as consumers and governments have demanded that business become more socially conscious, and industry has seen no choice but to comply.
The focus of CCIMS will vary over time based on industry and faculty input. This ensures the Center is focused on identifying and facilitating work in areas deemed most important to the marketing profession.
The Center will identify the intersection of faculty and industry research interests, encourage collaboration, and enable mutually beneficial outcomes.
The Practicum is an integral part of the CCIMS curriculum, the practicum allows students and participating companies to collaborate on a solution to a current business problem.
The Customer Strategy Course is a course that advances the CCIMS’s mission as a vehicle for education and research, but also as a proving ground for potential employers.
Student Organizations such as The Graduate Marketing Network and The American Marketing Association collaborate closely with CCIMS through attendance at conferences and symposiums, sponsoring unique events for member companies, and offering member companies the opportunity to judge competitions, etc.
CCIMS also supports other Marketing courses which pursue the mission of the Center, with enabling expenses such as data purchase for analysis, outside speakers, and travel related expenses.
Membership packages are available at three levels, each offering a broad menu of benefits appealing to a wide range of industry needs from unique recruiting opportunities and tailored student projects to enhanced faculty collaboration and opportunities to drive curriculum direction.
